Refining a craft that put them on the forefront of pop music, The xx, resumed where they left off, bringing forth more pregnant pauses and eloquent whispers. On the album’s first single “Angels”, you are reintroduce to Romy Madley-Croft‘s timid vocals, romanticizing about a lover in the distance, only supported by a gentle backing beat, provided by Jaime xx.

While this could be said for much of the album, it’s the sophistication of the production and its acute awareness of space that allows Coexist to remain completely in a league of its own.
