One of my favorite discoveries this year was Art Vs. Science as I stumbled across their set at this year’s Bonnaroo. The trio has been making waves down under for the past few years (with almost 80,000 Facebook fans), puts on one of the most energetic live shows, and have an ARIA to their name (Australia’s Grammy’s).
Anyway, that’s just a little background on the Sydneysiders’ dance act. Under the easily-Googleable Vydamo, the band’s singer/keyboardist, Jim Finn, has just released his debut single, and man, it’s good. In a similar vein to fellow Aussie indie-popper Young Cairo‘s “Ghosts”, “Gonna Make It” is an addictive little gem whose infectious chorus has the unique ability to get stuck in your head for days – where you enjoy every second of it.
As per Jim himself, the song is about the Sydney party scene, when you’re out all night and hoping to make it home for breakfast – and then doing it all over again. Never has all-night partying sounded so fresh: with one of the catchiest hooks of the year and a buildup that makes Swedish House Mafia‘s drops look week, all tied together by a brilliant keyboard, “Gonna Make It” is about to put Vydamo on the map, as it’s already receiving some heavy airplay on Triple J.
Although not much has been announced yet, according to his Soundcloud, this will be the first single off his debut solo record, due for release in 2013. And if it’s not already evident, this lead single shows us that Jim must have many more similarly infectious gems up his sleeve. So for now, bask in the contagiousness of what is sure to be one of 2013′s biggest breakout tracks.
For a short time, you can download the single here.
