It’s no secret that you don’t need to be layering your music with a million different sounds and instruments to make it have a unique sound. The xx are a perfect example of this, and fittingly, new kids on the block London Grammar are espousing the same sort of vibe as The xx: minimalist, atmospheric, subdued pop.
The trio’s debut track “Hey Now” appeared last week, sparse, cold, and reflective, dripping in Hannah’s foggy vocals and begging for you to take it for a walk through a dew-covered wintery park. The band recorded an EP over the Summer that should see the light of day in the new year, but until then you don’t need much more than “Hey Now”. By the time you get tired of it, it’ll be Christmas 2013.
