Anyone that’s already got their year-end lists done and dusted might want to reconsider, because Solange‘s True EP, a collaboration between her and Dev Hynes (Blood Orange), comes out next week on Terrible Records and if what’s been released from it so far is any indication, it’s going to make a strong claim for EP of the year.
First single to come from it “Losing You” (which we never got a chance to write about but you can check out here) was an A+ R&B gem that made the blogosphere stop in its tracks. If you haven’t had a chance to listen please do, because it’s one of the best songs of the year, no doubt. Flip side “Sleep In The Park” (not on the EP) was no slouch either.
Now she’s dropped “Lovers In The Parking Lot”, which sounds like an R&B classic straight out of the ’90s. She’s channeling Destiny’s Child here (after all, she is a Knowles), but we don’t think anyone is complaining. The combination of the slightly off-kilter production and silky-sweet vocal is to die for.
Listen to “Lovers In The Parking Lot” below, and check out the artwork for the EP above (yeah, that’s not a red square).
