I kinda feel like I’ve just been a part of something bigger than what I may fully realise at the moment.
I’m only a recent fan of Tyler, The Creator and his OFWGKTA (Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All, or Odd Future for short) cohorts, but having seen some of their videos and heard some of their tunes, when I found out they were playing on Jimmy Fallon I knew it was something I had to see.
Based on every single thing you can possibly find out about them, Odd Future and Jimmy Fallon aren’t supposed to go together, but it did, and fuck me what a performance. Mayhem before the performance, mayhem during the performance, and mayhem after the performance made for some spectacular viewing. Backed by The Roots and swagged by Mos Def at the end as Tyler rode Fallon’s back, it’s something you’ll likely only see a few times in your lifetime but you’ll never forget it.
If you know anything about them, you know their music is in no way suited for late night corporate TV but they made it happen without needing to be bleeped or otherwise censored. These kids are going places. The future of Hip-Hop is this, and it’s dark and twisted and fucked up beyond belief, and I love it. Just don’t call it Horrorcore, they hate that.
