Though we’re not exactly fans of the movies, the Twilight films have always had pretty decent soundtracks, in previous years featuring the likes of Bon Iver, Vampire Weekend, Grizzly Bear or Thom Yorke, to name a few. For the final installment in the series, POP ETC, Passion Pit, and St. Vincent (in her second appearance in a soundtrack), among others, have been tapped to contribute songs.
POP ETC, whose self-titled pseudo-debut was recently ranked in our Best Albums of the Year list, contributed “Speak Up”, a reworking of a song they first debuted as “Virgins” live for La Blogotheque back when they were still the morning benders. It’s a lot more middle-of-the-road as far as their sound goes, mixing the more baroque-pop style of Big Echo with some auto-tune and more synthetic elements.
In the video for the song, footage of the film is mixed with the band performing it live on a sail boat. That’s the life if you ask me.
